Hadassah/JCRC Antisemitism Program Coming Up in November

JanaShortal.jpgOn November 3, Hadassah Minneapolis and the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas are cosponsoring a program entitled Antisemitism Today:  Navigating Bias in Schools, Politics, and our Everyday Lives. Moderated by KARE 11’s Jana Shortal, panelists will analyze trivialization of the Holocaust, the politicization of antisemitism, and other troubling trends for the Jewish community and its allies. Panel participants are Ethan Roberts, JD, JCRC Director of Government Affairs, Rabbi Aaron Weininger, Adath Jeshurun Congregation, and Laura Zelle, JCRC Director of Holocaust Education.

This very important and timely event will be at 10 a.m. at Adath Jeshurun Congregation. The program is free and open to the public. You will also receive the flyer in the mail in early October.  To see the flyer, click here. To register on-line, click here.

Gail Rosenblum Program Draws a Crowd

GailRosenblum.jpgGail Rosenblum, editor of the "Inspired" section of the Saturday Star Tribune, spoke to a crowd of 77 at Knollwood Place. She talked about how the section came about and the trend toward “good news” reporting in papers around the country. Also, Gail graciously and generously donated copies of her book. The audience was free to take a book in return for a contribution to Hadassah’s capital campaign, "360 Degrees of Healing." Thank you to the Programming committee and all who contributed to the sweets table for a very successful evening.

Fundraising -- It’s Time to Show your Support!

You should have received a letter from our Hadassah Minneapolis asking you to help Hadassah with a generous donation. National Hadassah is committed to renovating and expanding Hadassah Hospital’s 65-year-old Round Building, to providing more operating rooms and patient beds, updating medical equipment, and strengthening the building’s infrastructure. This capital campaign, called “360 Degrees of Healing,” is underway, but a successful outcome depends upon Hadassah members’ financial help. (If you are a member of the Chai Society or a Keeper of the Gate, you should be already receiving a bill from National Hadassah, and those funds are earmarked for the annual HMO campaign.  If you wish to make a contribution for the separate capital “360 Degree of Healing” campaign, feel free to give some extra support this year for that special campaign with this donation.)

Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) medical professionals are committed to providing outstanding medical care to all – regardless of race or religion. HMO researchers are working on medical advances, many of which may touch you or someone you know.

When you receive your annual solicitation for funds, please be generous. Lives are depending on us. If you have any questions about the Minneapolis Hadassah annual solicitation, HMO, or the “360 Degrees of Healing” campaign, visit www.hadassah.org or contact Stacey Bush (staceyrbush@gmail.com) or Linda Ward (ward4858@yahoo.com).

Tales From Ronald McDonald House

There are so many heart-warming tales that come from serving dinner at the Ronald McDonald House. Recently, a father from Memphis spent more than the usual amount of time chatting with our folks who were serving dinner. He was so appreciative to have a home-cooked meal and not eat fast food. It takes so little to make a difference for people in crisis because of their child’s severe illness. If you are willing to help prepare and/or serve dinner to the families living in the Ronald McDonald House while their children are receiving medical treatment at the University of Minnesota Hospitals, contact Terry Hallfin at terryhallfin@gmail.com.

Cultural Clique

The Cultural Clique suggests that people attend the play Gloria: A Life at the History Theater in St. Paul. The show, which celebrates the life of feminist Gloria Steinem, runs until October 19. We will discuss the play at the home of Sarene Silver, 2435 Manchester Drive Golden Valley on October 27 at 10:30 a.m. Please RSVP to Sarene at ssilver125@aol.com if you plan to attend the discussion.

Book Chavurot

The Night Club Bookclub usually meets the first Thursday of every month at the Plymouth Library, 15700 36th Avenue N. at 7 p.m., in the conference room on the far right side of the library as you walk in. On October 3, we will discuss Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult. If you enjoy reading as much as we do and would love to meet a wonderful group of woman for a fun evening please don’t hesitate to contact Shelly Levine at shellyilevine@msn.com. We always are looking for and welcoming new members.

The Henrietta Szold book group is a lively bunch of men and women who meet at 1 p.m. on the 4th Wednesday of every month in the Knollwood Place Apartments boardroom. Our book list is varied, and all the book titles chosen are available in regular and large print, audio, and downloadable formats with many copies in the Library system. Many of our participants use the volunteer delivery system offered by the Hennepin County Libraries. While not everyone finishes reading each of our titles, we have great discussions based on the themes in each book. The book for October 23 will be The Address by Fiona Davis, a historical fiction about the famed Dakota apartment house in New York City. Please feel free to join us! If you are not on our contact list, call Debby Wolk at 612-925-7932 or e-mail her at tzvibo@aol.com for more information.
