MITZVAH PROJECT UPDATE
The trunk and all the seats were filled! An entire car load of
school supplies was delivered to Rochester City School #3 at the
beginning of September. I was met with cheers, shouts of thank you and
“when are you coming back to see us” by Ms. Berntsen's 3rd grade students.
A HUGE THANK YOU to all who so very generously donated paper, pencils,
pens, notebooks, folders, glue, reading books and many other much
needed supplies. These gifts will be distributed to our adopted class
and to other students in the building.
You helped these
students start their school term equipped for classroom participation
and they and the faculty are very grateful. We collect all year. Drop
off to me or call for a pickup.

YOUTH ALIYAH/CHILDREN AT RISK UPDATE
Hadassah's involvement in Youth Aliyah extends from renovating old
buildings and laying the cornerstones for new ones, to raising funds for
projects such as a state of the art music center, a swimming pool, and
subsidizing school trips. Hadassah donations enabled seniors from Meir Shfeyah and
Hadassah Neurim to join an Education Ministry delegation to Poland in February, when the students visited Auschwitz and other sites. The subsidies
covered not just
travel expenses, but warm coats and snow boots for those who could not
afford them.
We can help these students in our Youth Aliyah Villages by
purchasing Youth Aliyah Certificates that are good for any occasion.
Small Certificates are $5 and up plus postage. Large
Certificates are $15 and up plus postage. Contact Marlene Elkin
271-1871.
THE
HADASSAH/JCC SHED
Remember the JCC/Hadassah Shed is in the back of the JCC parking lot. Hadassah and the JCC get paid by the pound for textile donations, which are then directed to those in need in the US and around the world. Please - only clothing, shoes, purses, linens, towels in tied plastic bags. No household items (non-textile), toys, pillows.
Thank you for
your help and donations.

THE BRANCH - REAL STORIES ABOUT BUILDING CONNECTIONS BETWEEN JEWS & ARABS
We're so excited about our new podcast series! Each month, The Branch
brings you into the everyday lives of Jewish and Arab Israelis forging
meaningful relationships. Presented by Hadassah and hosted by veteran
journalist Dina Kraft, The Branch provides inspiration by presenting
positive stories of people offering branches of peace — bringing our
brand of practical Zionism to American Jewish audiences and beyond.
Since 1912, Hadassah has been a model for building bridges to peace
through medicine. Whether they're at a Hadassah hospital or a theater, a
school or even an ice cream shop, these Israelis bring home the heart
and soul of Israel today. Listen now, subscribe, and tell your friends! Or click here for the podcast: http://www.hadassah.org/multi-media/podcasts/the-branch-podcast.html
EMAIL ISSUES CONTINUE!
Due to higher security issues with spam, large
files, and mass emails, some email addresses are not receiving our Hadassah
e-bulletins and e-blasts. Bulletins are sent around the first of each month,
e-blasts prior to programs. If you are not receiving our Rochester Hadassah
emails, please let us know. What started as just AOL issues may now happen with
other servers. And unfortunately we do not always know who is not getting the
emails. Please share this info with others (especially AOL users). Write to:rochester@hadassah.org

A Grateful Patient. A Simple Test That Saves Lives
At Hadassah, our patients keep coming back — to say thank you.
This summer, American journalism student Jessa Perrin took time out of
her Israel vacation to return to Hadassah Hospital to thank Dr. Rifaat
Safadi, head of Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO)’s liver unit, and
the ICU team. Nine years ago, when Jessa was just 16, Dr. Safadi made
the difficult diagnosis that saved her life with the help of a liver
breath test invented
