Book Chavurot

The Night Club Bookclub meets at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the Plymouth Library, 15700 36th Avenue North. Our next gathering will be November 2, 2017 and the book we will be discussing is Mrs. Kennedy and Me by Clint Hill. We will be meeting in the room with the conference table on the far right side.

The Night Club Bookclub is always looking for new members. Bring your friends along.  It is an enjoyable evening. Contact Shelly Levine if you are interested in joining - shellyilevine@msn.com.

The Daytime Book Group will be meeting November 15, 2017 at the Plymouth Library at 12:30 p.m. The book we are reading is Secrets of a Charmed Life by Susan Meissner. Isabel (born Emmeline), a 15 year old, was evacuated from London during World War II with her Mum, little sister, Julia, and her sketches for bridal dresses.  She sneaks from the Cotswolds to London, taking her sister during the blitz, hoping for bridal store work.  The resultant choices separate them, completely transforming their lives.

Our December 20th  meeting is Reader’s Choice. Give a 2 - 3 minute presentation on a book you’ve read.

If you would like to join this group, send an email to nettgar1@gmail.com.

The Szold Knollwood Book Group meets every month for a lively discussion of a variety of book titles.  We meet the fourth Wednesday of most months at Knollwood Place Apartments, 3630 Phillips Pkwy., St. Louis Park, in the board room at 1:00 p.m.  I say most months depending on our holiday calendar dates.  The following titles have been chosen for the remainder of the year.  An additional list will be presented as we near 2018 so that everyone has time to get the books from our wonderful public library system.  All of the titles listed have large print, e-books and audio books available. To reserve a book or arrange for delivery directly to you call 612-543-8850.  Be sure to do so in plenty of time to read all or some of the book.  It makes for interesting discussions when we all can participate.  However, that said, everyone is welcome just to sit in and hear the story.

November 22nd-  Hillbilly Elegy: a Memoir of a Family & Culture in Crisis by J.D. Vance
December 27thShe’s Not There: a Novel by Joy Fielding

Order your Mah Jongg Cards by January 27th

Hadassah Minneapolis sells maj cards every year and Hadassah hospital will get a donation as a result.

Please pass the word to your mah jongg-playing friends.  With our Maj-a-Thon scheduled for February 11, 2018, orders must be in earlier.  Save the maj-a-thon date, too!

The National Mah Jongg League will make a donation in the form of a rebate to charitable organizations for Mah Jongg cards ordered by individuals submitted in one order. Hadassah does not benefit if membership is done online or through the mail by individuals. Hadassah Minneapolis receives $2.00 for each membership plus a $15 order bonus.

Last year’s rebate was $483.00! The new 2018 Mah Jongg cards are now available for purchase and may be ordered in two sizes. A standard card/membership is $8 and a large card/membership is $9. Cards are mailed directly to your address.

To order, send a check made out to Ronna Locketz (Not Hadassah), 4740 Walnut Grove Lane N, Plymouth, MN 55446. The deadline is January 27.

Craft Co-op Fall News

We had wonderful response to our beautiful inventory at the GEM (Gender Equity in Medicine) program this past Sunday.  Many of our lovely scarves, hats, and fingerless gloves for the cool weather were displayed and purchased by our guests.  We thank our wonderful knitters and crocheters for their contributions both in skill, time and yarn.  Speaking of yarn, I bet there are a few of you who knit/crochet and have accumulated left over yarn that is sitting in your closets or basements looking for someone to take it away.  Hadassah Minneapolis would be happy to relieve you of the task.  We’ll sort through it and determine what can be used for hats, etc. and donate the rest to the University of  Minnesota Textile Center where they pass it on to fabric artists. It’s a win-win situation.  If you are looking for hospitality or Hanukkah gifts please contact Debby for a private showing in our “showroom” at her home. Call  Debby Wolk (612-925-7932) or email at tzvibo@aol.com to arrange for a pickup or delivery or for a showing.

Walking Group

What can help slow age-related decline in brain function and improve performance on cognitive tasks?  Walking 40 minutes 3 times a week!*

Hadassah Minneapolis’ walking group walks an hour twice a week so you only have walk one more time to reap the benefits.

Walk with us each Tuesday and Thursday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 and help keep your brain young.  When the weather is nice, we walk outside at various sites around our beautiful city.  Bad weather brings us inside so we never have to miss a day of walking with wonderful friends to improve our health.
