THE ROCHESTER ANNUAL MEDICAL CENTER PARTY!! COMING JUNE 13, 2017
What you might not know!
The Medical Center Party is
Rochester Hadassah's longest ongoing fundraiser, earning more money than all our other local initiatives combined. For over 60 years, hundreds
of thousands of dollars raised through this project were directed to our
Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) in Jerusalem.
How is the money used?
- Hadassah's two world renowned hospital facilities at Mt. Scopus and
Ein Kerem provide specialized multidisciplinary care, attracting
patients with the most complicated cases from Israel and around the
world.
- Over 1 million patients and more than 2,000 trauma patients receive care at Hadassah Hospital each year.
- 50% of hospital research in Israel is conducted at Hadassah.
- Hadassah is a world leader in pioneering stem cell research.
Doctors at Hadassah have produced evidence that stem cells can decrease
symptoms of Parkinson's, MS and ALS and reverse age related macular
degeneration.

PRESIDIUM MESSAGE
This is a most Golden 50th celebration of Yom Yerushalayim
on May 24th (28 Iyar) because it reminds Hadassah women of the sacrifices of
our predecessors and the challenges we ourselves face today. Our Rochester
Chapter has been rising to the challenge. With many thanks to our wonderful,
dedicated volunteers, we welcome new members all the time and hope that our
passion for Hadassah will become their passion as well.
You can celebrate the reunification of Jerusalem! You can
join Hadassah’s National President Ellen Hershkin as she leads O Jerusalem, the
50th Reunification Mission to Israel, May 21-26, 2017. Staying at the newly
renovated Leonardo Plaza hotel, this trip will be packed with history and
passion. Look for details at Hadassah.org/missions or call 1-212-451- 8031. If
you miss this one, there are many other missions that will meet your needs.
Every visit to Jerusalem and Israel is cause for celebration.
We wish you all a Happy Mother’s Day (this year on Lag
B’Omer) and a sweet Shavuot on May 31st, filled with the traditional “milky”
dishes we love. If you need any recipes, open your Hadassah Magazine or look
online at HadassahMagazine.org, or write Hadassah’s Every Bite Counts guru
Shannon Sarna at
Shannon@hadassah.org for recipes and ideas for healthy food.
What will Hadassah Magazine report in 2067, fifty years from
now? We are convinced, Hadassah friends, that the headlines will include new
leaders for the American Jewish community nurtured at Young Judaea camps and
programs, in Hadassah chapters, distinguished Israeli leaders educated at
Hadassah’s Youth Aliyah Villages, and medical cures developed at Hadassah where
research is pursued in service to humanity.
We will all continue to be proud Hadassah members, well into
the future.

MAY IS MELANOMA AWARENESS MONTH
Melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin cancer. It occurs when there is damage to the DNA that controls cell growth and it is most often caused by ultraviolet radiation from sunshine or tanning salons. The damage triggers mutations which cause the skin cells to multiply rapidly and form malignant tumors. If diagnosed and treated early, melanoma is almost always curable, but if not, the cancer can advance and spread to other parts of the body, where it becomes hard to treat and can be fatal.
