PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Last month was the annual Medical Center party, the largest fundraiser
that our Rochester Chapter sponsors each year. This year’s event was a
rousing success—the total amount of money raised for the Hadassah
Medical Center in Israel will be reported soon in both an e-bulletin and
a hard copy bulletin. I was happy to visit with many of you who are
contributors and attended this event. We bid a fond farewell to Kevin
Heilbronner, our emcee, who has now moved out of NY state with his
family; he will be missed by many of us!
Now that we are past Shavuos, we are in the midst of the middle of 2016
and the true beginning of the summer season! School has ended for the
academic year, and parents may be in the process of taking vacation time
from work. Some families are away from town already and/or spending
valuable “family” time enjoying varied activities. Others are engaged in
“staycations” or are planning to visit with family members who live out
of Greater Rochester.
We are preparing also to enter Tammuz—the only month in the Jewish calendar that has not a single holiday—early in this month.
The one secular holiday (July 4th) this month, which celebrates our
nation’s independence, is one in which every American joins together
with neighbors and friends to celebrate with picnics, fireworks, and
other activities.
No matter how you choose to celebrate, enjoy the “4th” as it is the only truly American holiday!
B’Shalom until next month,
Roz
IN MEMORIAM
We note with sorrow the passing of Annette Garver and Nancy Hoffman, Life Members of Bat Ami.
We also note with sorrow the passing of Joan Gerber, a Life Member of Bat Ami. She and her husband Joe, who was previously deceased, made generous donations to the bone marrow unit at Hadassah Hospital in memory of their daughter Carol, who was a nurse at Hadassah Hospital. They also volunteered at the Hospital for many years.
May their memories be for a blessing.

TILLIE ROSE EDUCATION PROGRAM
AND THE WINNERS ARE - MEDICAL CENTER UPDATE!
In our 100+ year history, the Rochester Chapter of Hadassah has
been hugely successful - growing from 1 Tillie Rose Chapter into a
Chapter with a group plan. During our most active years, we had 8
groups, thousands of members, and quotas that reached over $100,000
annually. Currently we have 2 groups and an active Chapter with almost
monthly programs and ongoing fundraising initiatives. The biggest
fundraisers in memory were the Thrift Shop, which was open for over 30
years, our nationally famous cookbook, still going strong, and,
beginning in 1955, the Rochester Chapter Medical Center Party.
For over 60 years, the Medical Center Party has raised hundreds of
thousands of dollars to sustain the most advanced medical facility in
the Middle East. This project is a win/win fundraiser. Our hospital
network receives thousands of dollars annually from Rochester to
continue the delivery of state-of-the-art compassionate care, regardless
of race, religion or nationality -
AND
- our generous participants have the opportunity to win rewards as well.
Congratulations to this year's winners:
Judy & Norman
Blaustein, Marlene & Ross Elkin, Barbara & Marvin Gray, Elaine
Sarna,
Betty Tishkoff, Debi & Ralph Brenner, Myron Silver & Rivka Chatman, and Leo Cohen.
We gratefully acknowledge and thank Myron Silver for returning half of his winnings to Hadassah.
A BIG THANK YOU goes to our wonderful Master of Ceremonies, Kevin
Heilbronner and to Jake and Nick Kinney for providing such beautiful
entertainment.
AND
---to Judith Mercer, our ongoing Medical Center Party Treasurer
---to Chapter Treasurer,Toby Berke, who worked out the computer generated

check writing
---to Karen Lustig for endless computer and PR support

AND
---to our dedicated
committee volunteers, whose conscientious efforts and gifts of time ensure the success of this project.

JANET WAGNER MEMORIAL FOOTBALL CHALLENGE (FORMERLY HADASSAH FOOTBALL CHANCE)
We have renamed this fundraiser in memory of Janet Wagner, who passed away last year. She was an ardent supporter, champion, salesperson , and publicist for this project; you name it, she did it!!! We are so pleased to honor her in this way.
You can honor her memory and at the same time support the amazing work of Hadassah by purchasing tickets. They are still a bargain at only $10!
Here's how it works: each NFL team plays 16 games over a 17 week season. For each week you are assigned a different combination of two teams. You win $50 if the total points scored by your two teams are higher than that of any other two teams. You may also win $10 if the total points scored by your two teams are lower than that of any other two teams. In case of ties, prizes are split. Participants are eligible for prizes each week that both assigned teams play the game.
ATTENTION
ANNUAL MEMBERS: Consider upgrading your
Annual membership to a Life Membership for only $180 during 2016.
THE
HADASSAH/JCC SHED
Hadassah and
the JCC get paid per pound for textile donations, and folks in needy areas in the
US and abroad receive clothing and household soft goods. REMEMBER: No pillows, toys or household
items (non-textile) – only clothing,
shoes, purses, towels, sheets, in tied plastic bags, are accepted!
Thank you for
your help and donations.

"CHECK IT OUT" TEAM MOURNS DEATH OF DR. ROBERT HANSS
The Rochester Hadassah Check It Out Team mourns the recent death of our
beloved Dr. Robert Hanss. For 13 years, Dr. Hanss came to nearly every
school we visited, taught students all day about cancers, its triggers,
preventative measures, self examination, and healthy life style
measures. He recruited other physicians to our program and provided
instruction to medical student and resident participants. He was an
excellent clinician and teacher, beloved by the students, health faculty
and Check It Out volunteers, a gentle giant in this community and a
Hadassah HERO. Monika Katzel - Check It Out Chair
