Message from the President, Ellen Burke
Whether we have family, friends, or no one in Israel, we are all feeling so many things right now. Sadness, of course, but also loss, stress, fear, anger, helplessness, hopelessness, and so many more feelings that are both personal and shared.
Being part of Hadassah has helped me to cope a little better knowing that our hospitals, our doctors, nurses, staff, clowns, our Youth Aliyah villages, are all playing an important role in serving the people of Israel in this war. If you haven’t been going on the Hadassah home page where there are daily updates, you really should. It is gratifying to see the difference our Hadassah is making.
I ask myself: “What can I do from here in America besides donate money to the Hadassah crisis fund?” Though the money is important to keep our hospitals and villages running with so much extra load, there are other things we can do through Hadassah advocacy. As always, Hadassah makes it easy to advocate. Just click on the links below to connect to a page that allow you to connect directly with your elected Representative or the President.
• Thank President Biden for prohibiting antisemitism in federally funded programs and then ask him to fully implement the IHRA definition of antisemitism! • Ask lawmakers to stand with Israel and publicly call on Hamas to release all hostages immediately by clicking here: ACT NOW. • Secure Emergency Funding for Israel by urging Congress to quickly take up and pass over $14 billion in emergency security and humanitarian aid to Israel—including healthcare funding! These funds could help Hadassah Medical Organization continue providing critical emergency assistance and lifesaving care. • For the latest crisis-related Hadassah videos (Israel at War briefings, interviews with patients, with Youth Aliyah students, with HMO professionals) click here.
Finally, we need to keep ourselves mentally healthy right now. Community is important at all times, but especially now being with our Hadassah sisters is comforting and empowering. Click here to see what your Chapter is doing, and be sure to participate. As it turns out, several medical studies have proven that community is also good for our physical health.
One last thought. I read this earlier this week and can't get it out of my head: "Israel uses its weapons to protect its people, Hamas uses its people to protect its weapons."

"As we look ahead, there will be a dire need for comprehensive rehabilitation services, both physical and psychological, for the thousands affected by this war. Hadassah offers a beacon of hope amid a landscape marred by turmoil. We need your support today, so please give now." Prof. Yoram Weiss, Director General Hadassah Medical Organization
