It’s hard to believe that Summer is slipping by so quickly! I am excited to update everyone with all the happenings in the Pacific Northwest Region.

On Sunday, July 30, 2023 the Seattle Chapter held a wonderful centennial event, “One Hundred Years of Healing and Innovation.” It’s hard to believe that it was 100 years ago that this chapter was formed, and Israel celebrated its 75th anniversary of becoming a State! Over 75 women gathered for a delicious brunch honoring the past presidents of the Seattle Chapter. Hadassah members, including 14 past presidents, family members and out of town guests joined this successful event. Seattle’s newest president Julie Shumofsky Chivo, along with her board, did a terrific job in presenting an outstanding program with Risa Coleman as facilitator. We were introduced to Andrée Aelion Brooks, author and writer for the New York Times, Dr. Joy Steifel, retired and observant Jew, one of the early female doctors, and Dr. Sarah Baskin, a pediatrician, wife and mother of four amazing boys who holds a full-time job, is a runner and entertains almost every Shabbat and known to be one of the most innovative cooks in her Shul. These women described their life stories from a female perspective and what it takes to be a professional Jewish woman, and the changes in healing and innovations in today’s hectic and busy world. We were honored to host Judith Alperin, Chief Development Officer from Hadassah’s National Headquarters, as well as Harriett Zeitlin, Major Gifts Officer for the entire West Coast. Judith gave a powerful speech emphasizing notable women, the contributions they have made, and their leadership qualities throughout the years that have made Hadassah what it is today.

Other happenings in the region are the Annual Fundraising Honey Event proudly brought to us by our Vancouver, Washington Chapter. We are excited to announce that plans are underway to launch a young women’s chapter in Portland, Oregon with the help of Deanna Migdal, Hadassah West Area Engagement Director. The inaugural gathering of this new Hadassah presence is on Sunday, August 13!

Finally, Seattle Redmond Ridge is partnering with The Trilogy Shalom Club for a Game Day on October 25, 2023 honoring Cindy Rubin for her dedication to Hadassah.

Flyers and announcements of these events are below.

It’s hard to believe that The High Holidays are fast approaching and soon we will all be starting another Jewish New Year! Personally, I can’t believe that my three-year term as your President for Pacific Northwest will be ending this December. It has been an amazing experience and has been filled with unfolding surprises, as well as memorable experiences, and especially the opportunity to meet some of the most delightful, interesting and talented women.

Warmly,

Tami Rudnick Rabin
Pacific Northwest Region President
