Dear Friends, Don’t you just love Hadassah……..the projects in Israel, our hospitals and Youth Aliyah villages that literally save lives. What about the advocacy efforts in the U.S. where we fight for women’s rights, equal access to healthcare and human rights. There’s also the support for Young Judaea providing our youth with safe spaces to learn and explore their Jewish identity at summer camp, Israel experiences, year-round conventions, and other events. What other organization has such diversity? I also love that some of my closest friends are people that I met in Hadassah over the years.

Hadassah Boynton Office Appointments Update
Hadassah’s Boynton Beach office is once again open to volunteers on a limited basis. If you need to visit the office, contact FloridaRequests@hadassah.org. You will be provided with a link to upload your COVID vaccination and booster documents. Per Hadassah National's office protocols, all visitors must be vaccinated and boosted. You will only need to upload your documents once. All visitors must have an appointment to enter the office.
Because the CDC currently categorizes Palm Beach County’s community COVID rate as “high”, Hadassah requires that masks be worn in the Boynton Beach office.
Hadassah will be returning to in-person events and gatherings!
If your Hadassah chapter will be returning to in person events, local units are required to follow state and local laws and regulations, the current CDC guidelines and recommendations as well as the following Hadassah protocols in order to conduct activities in the safest and healthiest manner possible. Please note: applicable Florida law states that businesses operating in Florida may not require patrons/customers to provide any documentation certifying COVID-19 vaccination or post-infection recovery to gain access to or receive services from the business. These protocols have been mailed to chapter leadership. If you would like a copy of the protocols or have questions about implementing them, email floridarequests@hadassah.org.

Rosh Ha Shanah and Yom Kippur
On the eve of the 25 of September begins the Holy days of Rosh HaShanah. The rabbis taught that Rosh Ha Shannah commemorates the creation of the world, or by some accounts, the sixth day of creation, the day that humanity was created. In our liturgy, it is seen as more than an anniversary as we pray, "Hayom harat olam", today the world is born. This suggests that the world humanity and each of us individually are created "today" and every Rosh Ha Shannah.
The Days of Awe, the days from Rosh Ha Shannah to Yom Kippur, are days of possibility. They demand our attention and commitment; not only to celebrate, but to do the work of bringing peace, wholeness, to our fractured world. To us in Hadassah, we are already on the right path. We bring healing of body and mind, knowledge, and comfort to those in need, here, in Israel and the world at large.
Yom Kippur, which begins on the eve of October 4, the holiest day on our calendar, is a day or prayer, fasting, and depriving ourselves of creature comforts. It is believed that it is the day that the second set of tablets were brought down from Mt. Sinai where the Israelites had fashioned a golden calf. Thus associating that event with a day of repentance.
To Quote Rabbi Eva Robbins, "In the time of rebirth and renewal; may it be a year that brings less division, and greater peace; less hate and more love; less anxiety and more serenity; and a great opportunity for each person to express their purest soul".
Shannah tova,
Lois Gordon, Education Chair; Florida Atlantic Region of Hadassah
On August 18, 1920, women in the United States won the right to vote. Many of the suffragettes were Jewish women. We celebrate by making sure that our voting rights are not trammeled, that all genders have access to the polls, especially that we keep women's issues in mind as we vote. I will highlight a brief bio of some of the Jewish women who helped make it happen. It is especially timely as this is voting season and abortion issues are front and center.
Anita Pollitzer (1894-1975) Political activist and advocate for the arts, Pollitzer held a unique role in the suffrage movement. She garnered attention in 1917 after her arrest for picketing Woodrow Wilson's White House as a Silent Sentinel.
