Message from Our President
Dear Hadassah
Friends,
Can it
possibly be September already? It has been my privilege to be your president since
I took office January 1, 2014. Time has flown by. It would be difficult for me
to count the number of times I have proudly represented all of you - at your
Chapter events and board meetings, at Hadassah Desert-Mountain symposiums,
conferences and board meetings, and at National business meetings and two
National Conventions. I have always done so with great pride because Hadassah
women around the
world can always be counted upon to take action where and when it’s needed.
Hadassah
members and all registered American voters have the opportunity to stand and be
counted on Tuesday, November 8. Notice I said “registered.” If you have
recently moved, haven’t voted in a while, want an absentee ballot this year, or
have any other questions about your right to vote, I urge you to call the
County Recorder’s office in your area. If you do this in September, you’ll have
no trouble standing up and being counted in November.
Constitution
Day is September 17, celebrating the day the U.S. Constitution was ratified by
enough states to go into effect in 1787. Our Region has its Constitution and
By-Laws, too. They stipulate that our nominating committee present a slate of
officers for 2017 which is then voted upon and installed. I am pleased to be handing over the
reins to the next group of strong, empowered women who will lead Hadassah
Desert-Mountain for the next 3 years.
Since
the High Holidays are “late” this year, (Rosh Hashana begins at sundown October
2), we have the month of September to welcome back our gifted and new members
as they meet and mingle with the women in our Chapters. Hadassah
Desert-Mountain is so happy to welcome you all. We can count on each other for
a great finish for 2016.
I look
forward with great anticipation what is to come in the next few months. At the end of October, 21 women and 5 men
will fly to Israel to begin our Hadassah Desert-Mountain Region Mission. I look forward to greeting each and everyone
one of our participants and sharing what I know will be an incredible time in
our home land.
In December
my term will culminate with our Region Conference - Hadassah's Got Talent.
Joining us will be some of our National Hadassah talent including
CarolAnn Schwartz, Conference Advisor, Janice Weinman, Hadassah’s CEO/Executive
Director, Harriett Zeitlin, our Major Gifts Officer, and Sharon Krischer, our
Area Resource Chair. We will have a full
day of speakers and hands on workshops, an Annual Givers Reception, and a
Banquet during which we will install the 2017 Board of the Region.
It is with great pride and love of Hadassah
that I bid you Shalom,
Cathy Olswing, President
