Welcome to Greater Washington Hadassah 2021!
Dear Friends,
I am so proud to be your new Greater Washington Region President! As such, I’m learning lots of new and interesting information about how our organization, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, works. Having recently spent two days at an online National Assembly conference, I’m here to tell you that Hadassah is an amazingly-well organized and highly complex organization. The conference had 77 articulate speakers who spoke exactly on cue when it was their turn and shared a wealth of important facts and figures about Hadassah. I have pages of copious notes to prove it!
I learned about the wonderful programs such as Youth Aliyah in Israel which provides an alternative education for at-risk students, including immigrants from Russia and Poland. I learned about the exceptional medical research that Hadassah Hospital conducts in order to treat patients who suffered with previously incurable diseases who were cured by the gifted doctors and nurses at the hospital. I also learned that Hadassah needs each one of us to stand up and be counted as a proud person of Jewish descent when we experience antisemitism in our lives.
And we must also be aware of the work that Hadassah does in the United States promoting women’s health and making sure that our doctors have access to the latest research to address our medical needs. As a member of the World Zionist Organization of America, our 300,000-member organization enables us to be an incredibly powerful force that can influence others’ opinions and change their focus regarding the protection of human rights whether here or abroad.
In order to support Hadassah’s amazing work, our region and chapters provide our members with quality online programs throughout the year -- for which we now have to charge a nominal event fee. Although it doesn’t readily appear that these programs have a cost in an online forum (as we’re not renting a facility), there are actually underlying costs in order to provide all of these Hadassah programs. We hope that you will understand this and continue to give generous donations toward our mission.
I look forward to a memorable year of shared learning, discovering a wealth of creative ideas for our programs and opportunities for working with each other to energize and inspire more women to come on board!
We are “The Power of Women Who Do”! Please think about what you can do for Hadassah, as every one of us can make a difference!
With wishes for a healthy and safe year,
Ilene Schneider, Region President
