 Dear Friends,

We miss being with you in person, but are learning to use technology to stay in touch and to experience virtual togetherness via Zoom. Instead of traveling to Chicago we had 3 days of virtual gathering at Hadassah’s Leadership Training and then National Assembly from July 12th to 14th.

 There were many highlights:

· Hearing from Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) about her partnership with Hadassah to move the Never Again Education Act through the Senate and her ongoing advocacy to combat anti-Semitism.

· Hadassah has launched reConceiving Infertility, a national awareness and advocacy campaign on a once-taboo subject

· Hadassah International shared the Mexico experience

· Cooking demonstration with guest “Chef” Julie Ohana, LMSW, who shared her Culinary Art therapy

We were full of pride to see that Hadassah Greater Washington raised funds to purchase one ICU bed for Covid-19 patients. Neshama, Northern Virginia, and Shir Shalom chapters were noted for their contributions.

Mark September 8th on your calendar for an entertaining Zoom evening of Wine, Israel, and Friends hosted by the Mid-Atlantic geographic area. Details to follow.

Stay Connected. Stay Healthy. Stay Informed.

Be Inspired and Support Hadassah Healing.

Marsha and Sarah

Greater Washington Celebrates our Keepers of the Gate

Thank you to the 60+ members and Associates from every chapter in our region who came together for our first-ever virtual Keepers Celebration!

Debbie Friedman, region Annual Giving Chair, welcomed everyone. “You keep Hadassah going. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your commitment and dedication to Hadassah.” Rabbi Rebecca Sirbu, Hadassah’s Director of Engagement, inspired us with the moving story about a Covid-19 positive mother who gave birth to a healthy newborn at Hadassah Hospital and invited us to share a personally meaningful moment of when we felt the impact of our support for Hadassah. Bryce Diamond, Assistant Director of Annual Giving, spoke about the importance of our annual support in order to sustain Hadassah’s life changing work.

Bryce has invited us to the Keepers 25thSilver Anniversary virtual celebration on Sunday, August 2nd at 5pm.

Our celebration was capped by a stunning live musical performance by Netanel Draiblate (Nati), Concertmaster of the Annapolis Symphony, as we ended our hour together rejuvenated, inspired, and motivated to continue our commitment to Hadassah. Mazal Tov to all who have already made their annual gift. Welcome to our newest Keepers of the Gate!

To learn more about becoming a Keeper of the Gate or increasing your annual support, please contact

Debbie (dfriedman@hadassah.org), Bryce (bdiamond@hadassah.org), or your chapter leader.

Join Us!

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, August 19th at 7:30 pm for a discussion with Esther Safran Foer hosted by Ohr Kodesh Congregation.

Ms. Foer will be discussing her post-Holocaust memoir, I Want You to Know We’re Still Here. The book speaks to the importance of Foer learning about and reclaiming her family history after the Holocaust and how that knowledge informs the life she chooses to live today.

This event is co-sponsored by 3GDC, Washington DC Grandchildren of Holocaust Survivors.

Pre-registration for this Zoom event will be available on the Ohr Kodesh website. More details to come.

And Finally...

Here's a very important article on the effects of pomogranate oil on brain diseases such as MS.

This study is being conducted at Hadassah’s Ein Kerem Hospital - one of the hospitals you support. Be proud of the work you help support at whatever level of support you can.

Best to you all,

Randi Cohen Coblenz

Communications VP, Hadassah Greater Washington.
