Here's a little Rochester Hadassah history. Did you know that our Football
Challenge is over 30 years old? It
was introduced to us as a fundraiser by Millie Rosenbaum. The origins of this initiative are no
longer known. Millie managed this
project for decades and introduced it to other Hadassah chapters. Between 500-1000 football books were
sold then and our net income was $5000-$10,000! Our Hadassah men got involved and sold numerous tickets at
work. Our members talked up this
project and sold to friends.
Janet Wagner took over management from Millie and promoted
and championed this fundraiser until her death. Working behind the scenes is a devoted friend to Hadassah –
Carl Wetzstein. Carl gets the
football team and game schedule from the NFL and sets up the Challenge for
us. Margie and husband Gary keep
track of the weekly game results.
A big Thank You goes to Marilyn Rosen, who gets the football books ready
and to all our ticket sellers and promoters.
Here's how it works.
You buy the tickets. We match you randomly with teams. If they win, you win$$. Simple - Right? WE CAN MAKE THE FOOTBALL CHALLENGE HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL AGAIN!
Here's How – Buy a ticket(s) – Sell a ticket (s). Each is just $10 It's a Win/Win for you and for Hadassah!
We note with sorrow the passing of: Betty Lavender, mother of Martha Green, a Life Member. Charles Kaplan, husband of Daryl Kaplan,a Life Member. Trudy Sheinfeld, a Life Member and Past Chapter President. Glenna Spindelman, a Life Member.
May their Memories be for a Blessing.

YOUTH ALIYAH/CHILDREN AT RISK UPDATE
On most of the tour to Ethiopia, Haim
Teruneh, 18, was the life of the party. The sabra from Ramle couldn't
get his classmates singing on the bus
no matter how sleepy they were. He was the first
at the folklore show, leading the dance called Erkiska, rolling his
shoulder blades and tilting his chest Ethiopian style. But his throat went dry when he was among those standing in the wooden hut in Ethiopia with the congregation
singing Israel's national anthem; Hatikvah really got to him. "And I don't even go to synagogue most Shabatot in Israel," says Teruneh. "I didn't
realize I'd be so moved. That's the moment when the
whole journey to Ethiopia came together for me." Teruneh and a dozen other 12th graders from
Hadassah Neurim residential youth village on the seaside
north of Netanya recently returned from an 8 day trip to Ethiopia.
We can help these students in our Youth Aliyah Villages by
purchasing Youth Aliyah Certificates that are good for any occasion.
Small Certificates are $5 and up plus postage. Large
Certificates are $15 and up plus postage. Contact Marlene Elkin

EMAIL ISSUES CONTINUE!
Due to higher security issues with spam, large
files, and mass emails, some email addresses are not receiving our Hadassah
e-bulletins and e-blasts. Bulletins are sent around the first of each month,
e-blasts prior to programs. If you are not receiving our Rochester Hadassah
emails, please let us know. What started as just AOL issues may now happen with
other servers. And unfortunately we do not always know who is not getting the
emails. Please share this info with others (especially AOL users). Write to:rochester@hadassah.org
