Jacob Baime: Israel on Campus: Now for the Good News
BDS, or the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, is grabbing the headlines. But what is the whole story?Jacob Baime, Executive Director of the Israel on Campus Coalition, will discuss BDS and other anti-Israel activities taking place on college campuses, then share the good news: a thriving pro-Israel campus movement is growing, and students are energized and equipped to build bridges, work toward peaceful solutions, and advocate for the Jewish state.

PRESIDIUM MESSAGE
THANK YOU!
As we embrace the new year, we also reflect on the
best of 2016. With your generous support, we advanced trailblazing medical
research, advocated for women's health equity, treated one million patients,
including victims of trauma and terror, and transformed lives – one patient at
a time. Because of YOU in 2016 we ...
- Launched the Research
in Service to Humanity Campaign to harness the power of scientific
imagination and relieve suffering around the world.
- Completed funding for the new underground surgical
suite in the Sarah Wetsman Davidson
Hospital Tower.
- Expanded Defining
Zionism in the 21st Century, adding live events into the lineup
of Hadassah's provocative monthly speaker series, created to foster
conversations around the country and deepen connections to Zionism, with 66,00
viewers online, and over 500 at live events.
- Provided 270 Young
Judaea scholarships to summer camps and Israel experiences to help ensure
Jewish continuity for future generations.
- Made possible a range of Youth Aliyah Programs – that give children at risk and from a
variety of backgrounds a pathway to success, and a sense of sanctuary.
- Reached more than 7 million Facebook users,
building support for Israel and Zionism, women's health and wellness, and
research and treatment at HMO in Israel.
The results
are real and astounding. None of this happens without YOU. Be a part of the
vision and success of Hadassah. There is still time to contribute to our Annual
Rochester Campaign. Send your gift to our Treasurer Toby Berke, 119 Daley
Blvd., Rochester, N.Y. 14617 or directly to National Hadassah, 40 Wall Street,
New York, N.Y. 10005. Please understand, with hundreds of thousands of member
contributions, direct gifts to National may take some time to process and not
be credited as a Rochester Campaign gift. So indicate that you are a part of
the Rochester Chapter. Let us know if you've worked directly with our New York
office via a check or charge, so that we can thank and acknowledge your
generosity.

my classroom. I look forward to planning our next visit.”

Berntsen's class. I want to thank you for the pencils, and the bookbags,
crayons, colored pencils, folders and also notebooks. My favorite was the
bookbags and the pencils. I appreciate everything you gave us. Thank you. I
will never forget you.” (His letter was decorated with hearts and Stars of David)
The above are notes of thanks from Rochester School

Twenty five members from Rochester Hadassah, NCJW
Greater Rochester Section and the Temple Sinai Women's Chavurah came together
on January 24th to assemble personal hygiene kits for 3
organizations serving women in need in the Rochester area.
Government programs like SNAP, formerly Food Stamps,
don't provide for feminine hygiene products. Many under served women and girls
miss work and school during their menstrual cycles. They can't afford the
protection necessary during this time of the month. In response to this need,
the National Council of Jewish Women's local section developed the P.A.D.
Project to Provide Access and Dignity to women during their cycles. Thousands of individually
wrapped personal hygiene products were donated by the members of Temple Sinai,
Hadassah and NCJW. Ann Germanow, a member of NCJW and CEO of the Sensible
Source Company, generously donated Sensibles, the bags used to properly dispose
of hygiene projects. The Sensible Source Company and NCJW, GRS are partners in
the P.A.D. Project. 175 full cycle kits were assembled, as well as 100
emergency kits. Both types of kits were delivered to Sojourner House at
Pathstone, Mary's Place Refuge Outreach and RAIHN (of which Temple is a
participating faith community.)
Todah Rabbah to all who so generously donated
products for our kit assembly, to Carol Yunker (Sinai'sWomen's Chavurah), Gina
Horowitz (P.A.D. Project Chair) and to the following assemblers:
Lori Friedman, Monika Katzel, Marge Rosen, Lisa
Waldman, Gina Horowitz, Carol Yunker, Blanche Fenster, Suzanne Tunnell, Marilyn

YOUTH ALIYAH/CHILDREN AT RISK
Hadassah sponsors three Youth Aliyah Villages in which we provide
education, psychological support and love all in a safe and secure
environment that fosters independence, self esteem and success. Each operates a vocational training program, from
high tech auto repair to computerized precision tool making
to wine making. Our cultural enrichment programs including music
performance and art make for a well
rounded student at Youth Aliyah. Our sports programs provide the
structure, discipline and team work that help students to develop excellent life long habits and much needed self esteem.
Students come to our villages from a myriad of backgrounds,
but with virtually no knowledge or understanding of their Jewish
heritage .We are proud to offer many programs that enrich their lives with the history and variety of Jewish life.
Programs such as Joy of Judaism and our mission to Poland
and Ethiopia help to achieve this goal. Our programs also focus on
Didactic-Psychological Testing to assess areas of learning that may need special attention.
We can help these students by purchasing Youth Aiyah
Certificates that are good for any occasion. Small certificates are
$5.00 and up plus postage. Large Certificates are $15.00 and up plus postage. Contact Marlene Elkin 271-1871.

DEFINING ZIONISM IN THE 21ST CENTURY- A HADASSAH SERIES
New Daniel Gordis
Grappling with Israel's Evolving Identity
"Part of the challenge for all of us is to
become less wedded to our own positions than to an open engagement with a
changing reality," says Israel analyst Daniel Gordis in the latest
Defining Zionism session. In conversation with Anti-Defamation League
National Director Jonathan Greenblatt, Gordis discusses writers and the
soul of the Jewish state, a quintessential Israeli experience in a
Hadassah operating room, competing narratives of Jews as survivors and
pioneers, Palestinian self-determination, his new book, "Israel: A
Concise History of a Nation Reborn," and more.
Filmed live on November 18, 2016 at Temple Emanu-el's Skirball
Center, in partnership with the Jewish Week. Presented here in five
easy-to-watch (and share) clips.
