PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

RozBaum.JPG

The month of October 2016 is somewhat unusual this year because 5776 was a “leap year” in the Jewish calendar, which means that another month was added to the calendar. The result is that we will celebrate Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and the Festival of Succos this month; additionally we also will celebrate the secular Columbus Day (observed on October 10th).

As I write this month’s message we are in the Hebrew month of Elul. Like many others I have visited the graves of family members on my travels during the summer; the only one that I have been able to visit this month is that of my beloved husband, which I visit monthly. All of my family is always present in my mind along with special memories tied to them.

The high holidays cause me to think not only about the past and present but also about the future. None of us can know what Hashem has in store for us in the coming year, but like some of you I do a spiritual inventory in the month of Elul as to what I have done, what I have failed to do, and what I was unaware of what I should have done. While I do not make specific plans or resolutions, I do my best in every way. So, if I have wronged you in any way please accept my sincerest apology and know that I will try to do better in the coming year.

I may see some of you at either Temple B’rith Kodesh or at Temple Beth El this month. If I do not happen to see you, let me be among the first to wish you and your families a healthy, sweet, and happy new year.

B’Shalom,

Roz

HADASSAH NEEDS YOU!!!!!

Dear Members of the Rochester Chapter of Hadassah,

As another Hadassah year is coming to an end, we are working on the chapter board and committees for 2017. We are reaching out to everyone, hoping to add new members to the board and to our committees.

As you know, a strong and active Chapter and Board can only continue to offer you education programs, social and fun events and other opportunities, with the support of willing volunteers to coordinate it all. Those of us who have had the privilege to serve on the Chapter Board also know it is a terrific way to make connections with wonderful people!

We hope you will consider accepting a board or committee position for the coming year. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Monika Katzel, (585) 203-1200 or lesterkatzel@earthlink.net, or Marcia Gabrilove Ladin, (585) 820-5284 or mladin@hadassah.org.

YOUTH ALIYAH/CHILDREN AT RISK

Since 1984 Hadassah adopted the project that heroically rescued Jewish children. Today we continue to rescue children at risk, which includes both young immigrants and native Israelis who suffer from severe emotional
and behavioral problems from poverty, abuse and worse. Children with learning disibilities and those who have been displaced by war or political strife come to us for help.  Every child deserves an education, a home and
the embrace of a loving world.
Youth Aliyah helps lift each child from despair by providing a home, safety, education skills and values
enabling them to become successful and contributing members of their communities.

We can help these students by purchasing Youth Aliyah Certificates that are good for any occasion.
Small Certificates are $5.00 and up plus postage
Large are $15.00 and up plus postage.
